Meet Our Sarcoma Team
Our Philosophy
At the Providence Swedish Cancer Institute, our team of sarcoma specialists — including expert tumor surgeons (orthopedic oncologists for musculoskeletal tumors, gynecologic oncologists for gyn sarcomas, or oncologic surgeons for other sarcomas) offer highly specialized care for rare and complex bone and soft tissue tumors. Surgeons work closely with medical and radiation oncologists and pathologists, collaborating on personalized treatment plans developed to provide patients with the best possible outcome.
We prioritize timely, coordinated care — guiding patients quickly from diagnosis to biopsy, staging, and treatment. With personalized attention and access to a broad range of supportive services, we are committed to delivering expert, whole-person care at each phase of your treatment and recovery.

Yes. Our cancer experts participate in regular multidisciplinary tumor boards and stay current with the latest research and clinical guidelines. Many are also involved in clinical trials, research efforts, and national committees that ensure patients have access to emerging therapies and leading-edge care. This collaborative and patient-focused research approach helps ensure your treatment plan reflects the most current advancements in cancer care.
Sarcomas are rare and complex cancers, so they often require a combination of treatments and specialists. Because sarcomas can occur in different types of tissue and may spread to other areas of the body, your care plan might include surgery along with additional treatments like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or targeted therapies.
Surgery is often the first step to remove the tumor, but follow-up treatments are sometimes necessary to help eliminate cancer cells, reduce the risk of recurrence, and improve long-term results. Learn more details about all the available treatments for sarcomas and what to expect.
Your treatment plan is created through close collaboration between your oncology surgeon, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists. These specialists work together to review your diagnosis and imaging, often discussing cases in tumor boards. By combining their knowledge and experience, they design a carefully coordinated, personalized plan that reflects the latest research and treatment strategies — ensuring you receive the most effective, individualized care.
Yes. At any given time, the Providence Swedish Cancer Institute has access to hundreds of clinical research studies involving most types of cancers. We are one of the leading clinical trial sites in the western United States and often the only site in the Pacific Northwest to participate in many clinical trials, including select first-in-human studies that offer early access to promising new therapies. Ask your care team if a clinical trial could be part of your personalized treatment plan.
Yes, we are one of only a handful of national programs to offer a dedicated rehabilitation program led by a fellowship-trained specialist.
The program integrates the medical management of treatment-related side effects and a variety of other physical, occupational, and behavioral therapies, which have been shown to improve overall health for people living with cancer. This may include nutritional guidance to help you eat well during and after treatment and physical or occupational therapy to help prevent lymphedema.
